Welcome to Horse Marketplace Guides
Horse Marketplace Guides is where we share straight-talking advice on buying, selling and booking in the UK horse world. No fluff, no jargon, and real prices wherever we can find them.
Why we started the guides
I'm Sam, the founder of Horse Marketplace. I've been around horses for 12 years, as an equestrian business owner based in the South East of London. Buying or selling a horse is a big decision, and the information out there is scattered. Advice sits across forum threads, Facebook groups and word of mouth at the yard. Some of it is brilliant. Some of it is out of date, and some of it comes from people with something to sell.
We built Horse Marketplace so genuine people could buy, sell and book with confidence. Every seller is ID-checked before their advert goes live. The guides are the other half of that promise: the practical know-how that helps you spot a good deal, ask the right questions and avoid the bad ones.
What you'll find here
Buying a Horse. Viewings, vettings, passports and the questions to ask before you travel.
Selling a Horse. Writing an advert that gets genuine enquiries, taking good photos, pricing fairly and finding the right home.
Horsebox & Transport. Hiring or buying a horsebox or trailer, licence rules and travelling safely.
Lessons, Arenas & Livery. Finding and booking lessons, arena time and livery that suit you and your horse.
Tack & Equipment. Buying and selling saddles, rugs and kit, and what things are really worth.
Safety & Scams. Spotting fake adverts, paying safely and checking who you're dealing with.
How we write our guides
Practical first. Every guide should help you do something: book, buy, sell or check.
Real numbers, dated. When we quote prices, we say where they came from and when we checked them.
Honest about the limits. We'll point you to a vet, a solicitor or verified source when that's the right answer.
Clear about listings. Some guides show live listings from Horse Marketplace under "Shop this post". They sit below the article and never change what the guide says.
